Bills sponsored by two Ohio legislators – Senator Sherrod Brown (D–OH) and Representative Jean Schmidt (R–OH-2nd) – making a technical correction to the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule have been recognized by Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry (INDA), as a significant step towards a fairer, more effective trade for American manufacturers.

The correction specified in the two bills simplifies the tariff treatment of modern hygiene absorbent products. The proposed change brings U.S. regulation into conformance with the 2007 U.S. and E.U. joint proposal to the World Customs Organization. In addition, the new classification will help streamline commerce at no cost to taxpayers.
