Oryon's Elastolite for smart textiles

Oryon Technologies Inc is a developer of next-generation electroluminescent ("EL") lighting technology. Electroluminescent lighting technology has been seeing a comeback in the target textile markets which includes outerwear, industrial safety, municipal safety, military, athletic apparel, men's, women's and children's clothing, toys, footwear, sports gear and clothing accessories. Oryon's new technology, Elastolite emits light by the direct conversion of electrical energy into light through energized phosphors. Essentially Elastolite acts as a lamp, except these lamps, crafted from polyurethane and a newly formulated ink, are three-dimensional and flexible. Oryon Technologies has successfully eliminated the rigid nature of conventional electroluminescent lighting, creating a 180 degree, flexible electroluminescent lamp. This is achieved through a patented process known and trademarked under Elastolite.

In an Interreg IIIC backed report on the future of "smart textiles," like electroluminescent lighting, it states, "Intelligent textiles provide ample evidence of the potential and enormous wealth of opportunities still to be realised in the textile industry in the fashion and clothing sector, as well as in the technical textiles sector.
