Performance Fibers launches new polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) yarn
October 03, 2012 - United States Of America
High temperature and chemically resistant Fortron polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) from Ticona Engineering Polymers is being used in new multifilament yarns from Performance Fibers, a leading global supplier of industrial fibers and fabrics.
“Ticona, a leader in the development of engineering polymer resins for use in technical textiles, and Performance Fibers worked for two years to develop these new multifilament yarns,” said Martin Brueck, account development manager, Ticona.
“Fortron PPS offers superior performance in technical fiber applications across major industries around the world.”
The Performance Fibers PPS multifilament product line is designed to deliver outstanding results for mechanical rubber goods, aerospace, filtration, automotive, safety apparel and technical textile applications.
Fortron PPS from Ticona delivers key characteristics for high performance technical fibers:
-High temperature and chemical resistance — longer useful life, lower maintenance costs and broader material design options
- Inherently flame resistant without additives — higher consistency and durability in fiber properties, meets most important industry requirements
- Good water resistance — components stay consistent in changing environments, no significant degradation from hydrolysis
- Good dimensional stability — durability and consistency of useful life and predictability in design of parts
“This launch illustrates our investment in the research and development of new materials,” said Steve Byrne, vice president, Advanced Technology and Marketing, Performance Fibers. “It demonstrates our continued commitment to innovative solutions that address the dynamic and demanding requirements of our customers and the industries we serve.”
PPS multifilament yarns are being produced and distributed from the Performance Fibers Bad Hersfeld, Germany, manufacturing site and are available on a global basis. “This line of PPS yarns ensures maximum performance in use across a variety of applications and markets” said Greg Vas Nunes, president, Europe, Performance Fibers. “We are proud to add it to our portfolio of high quality products.”
