Michelman’s Hydrolube to protect fibers during processing

July 03, 2013 - United States Of America

Hydrolube fiber lubricants from Michelman are a family of water based emulsions used in fiber sizing formulations to lubricate and protect fiberglass, carbon fiber, natural and specialty fibers during forming, processing and post-processing.

Each available grade lubricates the fibers, protecting them from abrasion from neighboring fibers, and in some cases shields the fibers from hydrolytic attack.

The Hydrolube range of solutions is extremely stable and includes paraffinic, carnauba-based, polymeric, anionic and nonionic based chemistries. They are formulated to improve the manufacturability of the fiber, while meeting interfacial property requirements between the fiber surface and composite matrix.

Hydrolube is part of Michelman’s full range of polymeric dispersions and emulsions used as fiber sizing, binders and lubricants by manufacturers of various types of reinforcing fibers. Solutions include the Hydrosize, Michem Emulsion, FGLASS, U-Nyte and Hydrolube family of products.

Fibers treated with our solutions are suitable for thermoplastic as well as thermoset resins, and are used in the manufacturing of PA, PBT, PP, high performance and other reinforced products and components such as wind turbines and lightweight reinforced plastic components in the automotive and durable goods markets.
