Composites body AVK announces innovation awards

Lightweight roof bell / Process chain for manufacturing CRP components in high volume automobile series production / Fully automated draw bending and an exceptionally attractive employer

Autumn is the season in which the AVK - Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V. (Federation of Reinforced Plastics) traditionally presents its coveted Innovation Awards. This year, the awards were presented in three main categories as well as a special prize for an exceptionally attractive FRP employer, which was being presented for the second time. It was won this year by Wolfangel GmbH.

The first prize in the category innovative products/applications was awarded to Volkswagen AG for the development of its lightweight "roof bell" for high volume series production. The achievements of the BMW group in developing the world's first industrialised process chain for manufacturing CRP components for high volume series production in the automobile industry were recognised by the award for innovative processes/methods. First place in the category research/science was awarded to the Chair for Forming Technologies at the University of Siegen, Faculty IV, Department of Mechanical Engineering, for the development of a fully automated draw bending process for continuous fibre thermoplastic profiles.
