Dieffenbacher to show CFRP component manufacturing process

October 11, 2013 - Germany

In cooperation with KraussMaffei, Dieffenbacher will —for the first time ever—be demonstrating the full CFRP component manufacturing process live at the KraussMaffei exhibition stand in Hall 15/B24/C24/C27/D24.

Dieffenbacher is providing preforms manufactured at its own PreformCenter for the live demonstration and will show the entire automated process of preform production, from cutting fabric through to trimming.

A further innovation set to be showcased during the live presentation is the production of a CFRP component in class A surface quality. The key benefit of class A quality components is that they can be painted immediately without the need for any refinishing work.

The component to be produced at the stand is a roof segment of the lightweight sports car the Roding Roadster R1, which will also be on display at the KraussMaffei stand.

In addition to information on preform manufacturing and the HP-RTM process, new technologies in the field of long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics will also be featured at the Dieffenbacher stand in Hall 14/A04.

Through the use of tape layup technology, it is possible to place additional reinforcements in a component. A further highlight is the advanced direct method D-SMC with a just-in-time semi-finished goods process, which opens up new applications for duroplastic compounds in lightweight construction.
