Mallard Creek releases review of sustainability efforts

December 18, 2013 - United States Of America

Mallard Creek Polymers, Inc. (MCP) has published its first summary of the Sustainability efforts pursued by the specialty synthetic emulsion polymers company.

By design, water-based acrylic polymer emulsions, styrene-butadiene latexes, and other chemistry offered by the company, for Specialty Coatings, Construction Adhesives, Packaging, and Building Products are very environmentally friendly relative to the solvent-borne or extrusion alternatives.

The company, though, is driven to work with customers to continue to reduce the industry’s impact on the environment and greatly improve the sustainability of their customers’ products and markets.

“This Holiday Season provides the ideal time for our company to say ‘Thank You’ to our customers and other partners for working closely with us on sustainability efforts in 2013,” remarked Dave Hemm, Commercial Director.

There are many examples that MCP employees can point to in 2013, but many key initiatives will continue to grow in their impact in 2014. MCP embarked on developing its Natural/Synthetic Hybrid over two years ago, and that work has resulted in a number of new products.

This work continues with the goal of offering polymers based on renewable resources. The company has confidential projects working closely with customers to eliminate waste sources and create environmentally friendly alternatives to existing processes.

Additionally, the papermaking lab continues to support applications for fibers regenerated from waste textiles. In the building and construction market segments, MCP continues to develop technology to assist customers in moisture management in building envelopes. Applications range from bathroom tile installation systems to coatings to replace plastics in house wrap.

The company has completed capital projects in its Charlotte manufacturing facility to reduce emissions. Lastly, the company is working to assure our products meet regulations around the world. MCP has gained REACH registration of styrene and butadiene so that customers can continue to export their products from other countries to Europe.
