The nature of touring means intense uphill with periods of rest, downhill stretches through deep snow, and intervals where equipment transitions are required. For approaches and uptracks, the benefits of wearing softshell cannot be overrated.
Allowing heat to escape, with full stretch mobility and sufficient moisture protection, softshells manage the heat and moisture while still providing significant weather protection. However, alpine environments are subject to rapid changes in conditions where the waterproof protection of a hardshell is essential.
The Lithic Comp Jacket releases heat and moisture on the way up via the back and underarm panels of the air permeable and highly breathable softshell textile Arc’teryx Trusaro. During periods of rest, this same fabric retains warmth and dries quickly. When opened, the mesh backing of the hand pockets creates a channel of air flow across the chest.
Protection from poor weather, wind and downhill blasts of snow is provided by weatherproof, breathable GORE Fabric Technology panels extending down the jacket front and over the shoulders. The result is a composite garment that manages wind, wet and flying snow on the hood, arms, hips and front of the torso, while the base of the neck, the back and shoulders move freely and vent heat.
Like the jacket, the Lithic Pant combines GORE Fabric Technology with Trusaro softshell. The thighs, seat and cuffs are protected from the weather. At the back of the leg and at the front waist, Trusaro is used to maximize breathability and freedom. The low bib style pant has side vents to add air flow, three pockets and the new Arc’teryx PowderCuff with a quick release system that is easy to get on and off over boots, even with gloved hands.
The features are carefully selected and craftsmanship top of the line, but the Lithic Comps’ real beauty is the effective union of hardshell and softshell materials using composite construction.
