Boats with Innegra fabrics to be seen at Toronto Boat Show

January 12, 2015 - Canada

At the Toronto Boat Show beginning January 10, 2015, Swift Canoe and Kayak will showcase several new boats containing hybrid Innegra fabrics.

Their canoes and kayaks will feature co-woven basalt/Innegra, carbon/Innegra, and TeXtreme spread tow carbon/Innegra fabrics.

Innegra S fibre is an olefin-based, multifilament fibre that is one of the lightest fibres on the market with a density of 0.84g/cc.

When used with other fibres, it improves impact resistance and durability which minimizes catastrophic failure and the fibre can also provide vibration dampening and in some cases, weight reduction.

Bill Swift of Swift Canoe says, “We have incorporated Innegra hybrid fabrics into our new boats to enhance the durability and toughness.”

“Advancements in carbon fibre technology are changing the way we design products and its effect on the paddle sports industry is growing exponentially.”

“We are excited that Swift has taken the lead and recognized the value that Innegra fibre can bring to their products and we look forward to that knowledge spreading throughout the marine industry.” says Mark Smith, president of Innegra Technologies.

Innegra Technologies, LLC, is an advanced materials company that develops high performance fibres for use in composite, protection and rope applications.

Innegra Technologies’ primary product is Innegra S, an olefin-based fibre. The fibre is lightweight, tough and recyclable at a cost that is reasonable compared to other high performance fibres.

It is used in combination with other high performance fibers including, but not limited to carbon, aramid, glass and basalt.

Current applications are in a range of markets including automotive, recreation, sporting goods, marine, and various industrial applications. (AR)
