Invista launches Novadyn transparent polyamides for nylon
March 20, 2015 - United States Of America
Invista, one of the world’s largest integrated producers of chemical intermediates, polymers, and fibres, has launched Novadyn polyamides, which are transparent polymers that can also be used as differentiated blend additives to improve traditional nylon performance.
Novadyn polyamides are highly versatile semi-aromatic polyamides with a unique combination of performance, cost effectiveness and recycled content. As a blend additive for traditional nylons, Novadyn polyamide significantly improves conditioned mechanical properties for nylon 6,6 and nylon 6, including up to 43 per cent improvement in conditioned flexural strength and stiffness.
Novadyn DT/DI and Novadyn DT polyamides can also be used to modify crystallinity, boost glass transition temperature, and reduce costs. These products can be considered for moulding, film, filament, and fibre processing applications. Novadyn polyamides can be used in a variety of applications including automotive, electrical, industrial, and consumer products, Invista informs in a press release.
Allen Reihman, director of new business development for Invista said, “We designed Novadyn DT/DI polyamide for transparent applications where polycarbonate struggles with chemical resistance or where more costly transparent polymers may be over-specified.”
The company is set to present the Novadyn polyamides at the NPE International Plastics Showcase, to be held from March 23 to 27, 2015, in Orlando, Florida.
Invista’s advantaged technologies for nylon, spandex, and polyester are used to produce clothing, carpet, car parts and countless other everyday products. Headquartered in the United States, Invista operates in more than 20 countries and has about 10,000 employees. (GK)
