PolyOne launches Geon Bio Flexible Solution
April 01, 2015 - United States Of America
PolyOne Corporation has launched Geon Bio Flexible Solution, formulated with a bio-derived plasticiser and in compliance with phthalate-restrictive regulations, such as California's Prop 65 and CPSIA.
“Consumer, healthcare, transportation and building products manufacturers now have a material that offers excellent performance and sustainability in one, cost-effective, vinyl-based material package,” it said.
Geon BIO materials are formulated with PolyOne's plant-based reFlex 300 plasticizer, which has been tested and certified by USDA’s BioPreferred Program to be 99 per cent bio-based.
“In addition, specific Geon BIO healthcare formulations are pre-certified to meet biocompatibility requirements for United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Class VI protocols,” PolyOne added in a press release.
Compared to other flexible vinyls, Geon BIO materials feature a wider processing window and enhanced thermal stability, which may improve manufacturing efficiency to deliver reduced production costs.
PolyOne Corporation, with 2014 revenues of $3.8 billion, is a manufacturer of specialised polymer materials, services and solutions.
"At last, customers can avoid compromising performance to meet regulatory and sustainability objectives," said Michael Garratt, president, Performance Products and Solutions, PolyOne Corporation.
He added, "Customers benefit as this plant-based, truly non-phthalate flexible vinyl performs at levels equal to or better than materials containing traditional petroleum-based plasticizers." (AR)
