Mitsubishi Polyester Film to expand US plant

One of the world’s largest producers of
polyester film Mitsubishi Polyester Film is expanding its existing operations in Greenville County in the US and is investing $100 million in the expansion.
“Celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, the facility has grown in size from 95,000 square-feet at inception to nearly one million square-feet today,” a Mitsubishi press release stated.
The plant, according to Mitsubishi, is the largest polyester film plant in the US and employs more than 500 workers engaged in specialty films used in industrial, packaging and electronics applications.
The investment will include the installation of a world-class polyester film production line, which will combine a high level of technology with production efficiency.
Mitsubishi intends to use this line to support the growth of its business in both the US and overseas markets and is expected to operational by the third quarter of 2017.
“This expansion further enhances our ability to support our customers and markets with value added low cost solutions,” Bill Radlein, COO at Mitsubishi Polyester Film America said.
“This $100 million investment to upgrade their existing facility is a tremendous win for Greenville County and for the state of South Carolina as a whole,” said South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.
Mitsubishi Polyester Film is an affiliate of Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. which has additional polyester film assets in Japan, China, Indonesia and Germany.
Mitsubishi Plastics manufactures and sells various high performance products and services including functional films, electronics materials, industrial and construction materials.
Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. too is part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Holding Corporation, one of the largest chemical companies worldwide with annual revenues exceeding $40 billion. (AR)
