Potential lawsuits for defective air bag control units
February 26, 2016 - United States Of America
Morgan & Morgan is investigating potential lawsuits on behalf of consumers who purchased certain vehicles with air bag control units manufactured by Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.
The manufacturer recently recalled certain air bag control units made between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2010 due to a potentially corrosive power supply component that could result in the failure of the unit.
“This can affect the performance of safety systems, such as seatbelt pretensioners and air bags, which either do not deploy or deploy unexpectedly,” a press release stated.
“The recall will affect more than 5 million people worldwide,” the press release quoted Mary Arraf, a spokeswoman for the supplier as saying.
However, Continental Automotive could not ascertain how many of those five million vehicles are in the United States but according to Mary Arraf that it potentially is less than two million.
As a result of the air bag control units in question, car companies like Honda, Fiat Chrysler, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, etc have recalled a few of their models built between 2008 and 2010.
The press release added that Volvo and Mazda have also been notified by Continental Automotive but are waiting to announce a recall pending an internal investigation.
According to the car manufacturers, nine injuries have been confirmed due to the malfunction while 74 other allegations of injury linked to the defect remain unconfirmed. (AR)
