LG Innotek develops new flexible textile pressure sensors
July 04, 2016 - South Korea
LG Innotek, a global materials and components manufacturer that focuses on mobile, automotive, LED, display, semiconductor, and IoT business field with its core technologies, has developed a new type of
textile flexible pressure sensors.
Being installed in medical appliances and automobiles to gauge and analyse external pressure, it is used for individual customised service.
LG Innotek’s sensors have highly elastic polyurethane material that fits human body comfortably. The textile flexible pressure sensors are flexible, making them suitable for products such as gloves and chairs that come in direct contact with the human body. The new pressure sensor helps implementing new features by utilising the pressure information in various areas such as health care and automotive.
In healthcare areas, the sensor helps to improve accuracy of telemedicine. When patients wear the device or walk on the carpet, the sensor can detect body balance and acting patterns. The information from the device will automatically be sent to the medical centre.
Using the sensor in sports gear can provide more detailed and improved training service. For example, the sensor detects the pressure and position of hands on a golf club. It sends the information to the player’s phone to help find the perfect grip.
The sensors can also be used in automotives for safety and convenience. The sensor understands the driver’s posture, body type, and weight, and automatically corrects the height of the car seat or pressure of the airbag. When the sensor is applied to the car seat, it measures the pressure on the seat and sends the data to the driver. This information can be used to correct the posture. (GK)
