Gurit shows new range of composites at JEC World 2018
March 08, 2018 - France
Gurit, a company specialised in the development and manufacture of advanced composite materials, related technologies, and select finished parts and components, is showing its new range of composite technologies at the ongoing JEC World 2018, the leading international composites exhibition, which is being held from March 6 to 8, 2018, in stand L22, hall 5.
The company is showing a core combination which is considered to be the future winning core materials solution at JEC 2018. In addition, the company is presenting Ampreg 30, a new low toxicity epoxy laminating system.
Gurit is showing the newly developed Balsaflex Lite product with a novel coating system that is capable of reducing the resin uptake in infusion processes by up to 50 per cent for rigid panels and by up to 40 per cent for flexible balsa wood sheets. Thereby, customers are able to save cost through reduced resin absorption and achieve overall weight saving in the blade. Balsaflex Lite offers superior mechanical properties, consistent high wood quality, good thermal stability and compatibility with epoxy and polyester resin infusion processes used by the industry.
Combined with Gurit’s Kerdyn Green PET foam, manufactured from 100 per cent recycled (post-consumer) PET materials, Gurit Balsaflex Lite forms what Gurit considers the future winning core materials combination for the wind energy industry, which is ideally complemented by the existing range of Corecell and PVC structural core materials.
Gurit is also displaying Ampreg 30, a new low toxicity epoxy laminating system for the manufacture of large composite structures in the marine, wind and construction industries. The new laminating system has been reformulated to prioritise user health and safety of hand lay-up and vacuum bagging production techniques through the careful selection of chemicals and the development of Light Reflective Technology (LRT) as a risk monitoring feature for the user.
Gurit Ampreg 30 features a robust resin matrix resulting in excellent mechanical and thermal properties of laminates produced at ambient temperature cures as well as moderate temperature post-curing processes. The laminating system is available with a range of hardener speeds from fast to extra slow, all applying the same simple mix ratio and the ability to blend hardeners to achieve a range of intermediate working times.
