3A Composites Core Materials has produced first carbon-neutral core material - Baltek SBC. The greenhouse gas emissions captured by 3A Composites balsa plantations are much higher than the GHG emissions caused by the balsa core material production. SBC has excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio and is resistant to temperature changes, fire and chemicals.

Baltek SBC is the balsa wood core material from controlled cultivation from 3A Composites Core Materials plantations. It can be processed with all known resin systems and processes.

The external calculations conducted by SCX – Bolsa de Clima de Santiago, Chile, and Factor CO2, Ecuador, have confirmed Baltek SBC reaches superior Greenhouse Gas Emissions Balance without the use of external offsetting.

3A Composites Core Materials manages several thousand ha of FSC-certified balsa plantations in Papua New Guinea (FSC-C125018) and Ecuador (FSC-C019065) to produce its structural core material Baltek SBC.

By utilising its plantations and state-of-the-art production facilities, 3A Composites is in a unique position to offer a genuinely renewable core material with a clear positive impact on the climate. 3A Composites own plantations, and not balsa as a renewable product, fosters Baltek SBC's carbon neutrality.
