Solvay to show materials for industrialisation at JEC

Solvay, which has been helping the composites industry to “Progress Beyond” by developing innovative technology solutions for the cost-effective adoption of composites in large volumes, will showcase materials and processes developed for industrialised processes at
JEC World. An attraction will be 3D printed parts for aerospace or oil and gas applications.
At the show will be Cycom EP2750, a market first prepreg technology developed for the high rate, efficient manufacture of aerospace primary structure parts. This prepreg and associated process enable the manufacture of aerospace standard complex small to medium parts. The technology is also a finalist at
JEC World Innovation Awards. Other important technologies to be displayed are Double Diaphragm Forming (DDF) automated technology, which has been demonstrated on a pilot line recently unveiled at Solvay’s Application centre in Heanor, UK, and Evolite F series thermoplastic composite tapes, developed for offshore O and G applications. Evolite F series thermoplastic composite tapes combine the corrosion resistance of Solef PVDF with the inherent high strength performance of carbon fibre, making it ideal for lightweight flexible pipes and risers at a lower cost.
Third generation aerospace structural prepreg and engineered materials for added functionality (including noise dampening and lightning strike protection), making the switch from metal to composites more cost effective, are important products from Solvay. “At the show we will display a Clean Sky 2 fuselage panel demonstrating Solvay’s ability to support customers and R and D projects with material developments tailored to the project needs,” the company said.
Solvay has textiles and resin systems for infusion engineered for maximised performance, processability and automation compatibility while enabling structural integration and design freedom.
“At the show we will display a selection of 3D printed parts for aerospace or oil and gas applications,” the company said. 3D printing enables rapid, just-in-time production of functional prototypes, spare parts, and even small series, especially with challenging designs.
Solvay’s KetaSpire Peek, also available with carbon fibre reinforcement, provides exceptional fatigue and chemical resistance as well as excellent mechanical properties at very high or low temperatures. Solvay's tailor-made filaments for Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), allow better fusion of layers, enable high part density and offer exceptional part strength, even in the z-axis.
