Suzano’s Eucafluff, made from eucalyptus trees planted on sustainably managed farms, has found place in the list of raw materials authorised to be used in disposable personal care products certified by the EU Ecolabel seal. The recognition is granted by European authorities to producers of finished goods that comply with high environmental standards.
The environmental standards are maintained during the full cycle of products, from the extraction of raw materials, through production and distribution, to their disposal. The seal confirms to consumers that they are using a sustainable product from start to finish, including its raw materials, such as Eucafluff.
The process for producing Eucafluff, the world’s only bleached kraft fluff pulp made from eucalyptus, complies with stringent criteria for reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as water and fossil fuel consumption. These advantages also were demonstrated in a study conducted by ACV Brasil (Life Cycle Assessment), which showed that Eucafluff has various environmental advantages, with superior results in aspects such as soil and water use and carbon gas emissions.
“The inclusion of Eucafluff in the EU Ecolabel strengthens its advance across Europe, which is a highly demanding market in terms of sustainability. This is an important milestone for Suzano’s fluff pulp, given that the certification is essential for certain clients in the region,” said Ari Borg, global fluff sales director at Suzano.
Eucafluff has other international certifications, such as PEFC Cerflor (Brazilian Forest Certification Programme) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council – FSC-CO10014).
