SGL Group will showcase its expertise across the entire composites value chain, including new duroplastic and thermoplastic materials, and component exhibits featuring Volvo leaf springs and a CFC crossbeam at Composites Europe during September 19-21, 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany. SGL will also present its latest development in the area of composites.
SGL’s latest development at the show will be bicycle components made with carbon fibre TowPregs, produced in collaboration with AMC (Automotive Management Consulting) using their proprietary technology called “xFK in 3D”.SGL Group will showcase its expertise across the entire composites value chain, including new duroplastic and thermoplastic materials, and component exhibits featuring Volvo leaf springs and a CFC crossbeam at Composites Europe during September 19-21, 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany. The impregnated fibres for this innovative production process come from SGL: SIGRAPREG TowPregs made of carbon and glass fibres are ideal for automated production processes and result in outstanding mechanical properties given their width consistency and high winding accuracy. In addition, they could also be produced with SGL’s new snap-cure prepreg resin systems that are currently under development. This would be an optimal solution to the serial production requirements of the automotive industry. AMC’s patent-pending “xFK in 3D” technology can be described as a winding process that uses calculations and simulations to produce 3D fibre-reinforced components. The advantages: fibre placement tailored to the force and stress requirements as well as minimal material waste.
Another inspiring experience awaiting visitors to the SGL booth is a virtual presentation of the new Lightweight and Application Centre (LAC) at the Meitingen site. With virtual reality glasses, visitors have the opportunity to witness the entire range of engineering services offered by the LAC team as well as how tailor-made composite solutions are developed. Right from supporting the basic idea of a composite structure, to concept and prototype development through to serial application – the LAC offers a broad spectrum of services.
Another highlight of this year’s trade show will be a newly set up innovation area called “Composites Process Chain” which will present SGL’s comprehensive product range covering the entire value chain of composite components. Visitors of this innovation showcase initiative can experience the entire range of products that SGL has to offer, from fibres to components including the exhibition of the BMW 7 Series Carbon Core body.
