US’ Eastman has planned to invest up to $1 billion in a material-to-material molecular recycling facility in France. The facility would use Eastman's polyester renewal technology to recycle up to 160,000 metric tonnes annually of hard-to-recycle plastic waste that is currently being incinerated. Eastman is a global specialty materials company.

US-based Natural Fiber Welding (NFW) has launched an alternative to synthetic fabrics. It has made a performance cotton textile called Clarus that can be used for clothing. The fabric has been treated to partially break down the organic material and leave it stronger and denser. The result is cotton yarn that behaves more like synthetic fibres.

Andritz, a supplier of plants, equipment, and services, has bagged an order from Ukrainian manufacturer of household and hygiene products, Biosphere, to deliver its first neXline spunlace line. The spunlace line will enable Biosphere to produce fabrics from 30 to 70 gsm, with an hourly output of up to 3,000 kg/hr after the second commissioning phase.

The Ontario government is supporting a nearly $10 million investment by Empack Spraytech in a disinfectant wipe production facility in Barrie, with more than $1.2 million in support through the Ontario Together Fund. Empack is expanding its capacity through this newly built facility by producing disinfectant wipes under the Zytec Germ Buster brand.

Ascend Performance Materials has announced that it has signed an investment agreement to construct a new hexamethylene diamine and specialty chemicals plant in Lianyungang, China in the Xuwei New Area Park. The new plant will be Ascend's first chemical production facility and the largest investment the company has made outside of the United States.
