Sumitomo builds 5th facility for pp compounds in China

Sumitomo Chemical has established a fifth production facility for polypropylene compounds in Wuxi, China. The facility will start operations at the beginning of 2021. Polypropylene compounds are high-performance materials which improve properties like impact resistance and rigidity, and are used in automobile bumpers, interiors, and home appliances.

Composites UK appoints John Toner new chairman

Composites UK has appointed John Toner, vice president of Teledyne Aerospace and Defence Electronics UK and general manager of Teledyne CML Composites, as its chairman. Toner has been appointed by the board of directors. As chairman, Toner will be central to the association’s vision in becoming the premier trade association for the UK composites sector.

Toray Advanced Composites names Toshiyuki Kondo CEO

Toray Advanced Composites, a leader in development and production of advanced thermoplastic and thermoset composite materials, has announced the appointment of Toshiyuki Kondo as its CEO, effective September 15. Kondo takes over from Keisuke Ishii, who had been CEO since July 2018, when Toray Industries purchased Advanced Composites Division of TenCate.

Kimberly-Clark Corporation, a manufacturer of personal care products and operator of non-woven fabric mills, announced that John Culver has been elected to its board of directors, effective immediately. Culver will serve on the company's audit committee. A graduate of Florida State University, Culver is a member of the College of Business Hall of Fame.

Composites China, first live trade event since Covid-19

The Composites China exhibition became the first composites trade show to be held since the Covid-19-crisis. The show was held during September 2-4, 2020 in Shanghai. It saw some 600 exhibitors and over 20 000 visitors, mostly Chinese locals. Chinese Reach Group represented a large portfolio of European companies under the current circumstances.

Israel-based biotechnology firm Seevix Material Sciences Ltd and the ASICS Institute of Sport Science will jointly develop sporting goods utilising SVX spidersilk, according to Shlomzion Chen, founder and chief executive officer of Seevix, talks materials. Japan’s ASICS Ventures Corporation, a subsidiary of ASICS Corporation, invested in Seevix in May.
