Alpha Pro Tech reports 62% growth in PPE orders

Alpha Pro Tech (APT), a manufacturer of products to protect people, including disposable protective apparel, has announced 62 per cent growth in orders to $36.7 million till April 7, 2020 (since January 27) for the personal protective equipment (PPE) products, including the company’s proprietary N-95 Particulate Respirator face mask and face shields.

Gurit splits composite materials business unit

Lance Hill, currently regional sales director for Americas region, has been promoted to general manager marine & industrial materials effective May 1.

South Korean team develops new luminescent technology

Scientists at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) have developed a new electro-luminescent(EL) technology comprising textile-fibre-embedded multiluminescent device, which may be used in wearable devices in the future. The new device improves efficiency by emitting light more flexibly and stably than the existing devices.

JEC World to be held in March 2021

In view of the coronavirus pandemic, extension of confinement across Europe and tightening of travel restrictions world over, next session of JEC World will now be held in March 2021. It was earlier planned from May 12 to 14. The most important international exhibition for composite materials and their applications is held every year in March in Paris.

EuCIA adds new data to its Eco Impact Calculator

The European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) has added new data for glass fibres to its Eco Impact Calculator, the online tool which enables composites companies to calculate the environmental impact of their products. Free to access on EuCIA's website, the Eco Impact Calculator is an easy to use cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) tool.

Covestro to get € 225 million loan from EIB

Covestro is to get a loan amounting to € 225 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The loan will provide medium term funding to strengthen Covestro’s research and development work in the areas of sustainability and circular economy within the European Union (EU). The EIB loan further establishes Covestro’s commitment to sustainability.

Germany's DLR uses its 3D printers to produce PPP

Amidst Coronavirus crisis, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) has successfully converted its 3D printers, which are usually used to produce models for aerospace research, to manufacture medical protective equipment. The step was taken after a request from the European Commission for assistance in the production of urgently needed medical equipment.

UK project benefits aerospace composite tool designers
