Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT along with four partners has developed a new method for assembling the carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) components, which saves time by shortening the production process. The method uses an ultrashort pulsed laser to drill holes for fasteners in the textile preform with micrometre-scale accuracy.

The high-tech fibre, PyroTex, has come up with a new fibre multifunctional blanket that is not only flame-resistant, but also a well-designed accessory for living, car, outdoor and leisure. PyroTex, which has been used in areas that require fire resistance like in aircrafts, work clothing or in filtration can now be used in home and outdoor textiles.

Burlington, a global diversified provider of textile solutions, has expanded the licensing of its No Fly Zone Insect Repellent Technology into Canada and named Mark’s as the first licensee to sell garments protected by the proprietary No Fly Zone mosquito repellent technology. The technology has been available in the US and other regions for some years.

The morphing aircraft built from 3D printed composites by the CMASLab at the ETH Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering and the ETH Spin-off 9T Labs jointly has proved its flight capabilities in its three-minute maiden flight. The flight showed ample control of the aircraft through morphing. The main wing and the V-tail performed as required.

Freudenberg, the global technology group, has completed the sale of its South American hygiene nonwoven business to Fitesa, effective from February 6, 2020. Freudenberg sees the sale as the best opportunity to succeed over time. Fitesa is a supplier of nonwovens to the global hygiene market. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

International technology Group Andritz has installed a new neXline eXcelle spunlace line at Novita, based in Zielona Gora, Poland. The line is meant to produce spunlace fabrics from 30 to 100 gsm and even down to 25 gsm for ultralight products. Novita now enters the hygiene and medical markets with a total installed capacity of nearly 3,000 kg/h.

Carbon ThreeSixty, the structural composites specialist, has installed an in-house Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP) cell to deliver the next generation of complex composite products three times quicker than traditional methods. The facility also reduces waste by up to 90 per cent and can produce up to 100 metric tonnes of composite preforms per year.
