Egypt's technical textiles sector is emerging with total imports of $605.4 million and exports worth $746 million in 2017, according to a report published by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Exports are growing at a fast rate-a compounded annual growth rate of 51 per cent from 2013 to 2017, while imports are slightly decreasing.

A Chinese firm recently launched a diaper factory in Kenya. Huang Shiwei, factory director of the Sunda Kenya Industrial Company, said the $39-million facility covering 35 acres in Mavoko, 30 km southwest of Nairobi, has an annual production capacity between 350 million to 450 million pieces. Kenya will save on foreign currency used to import diapers.
