First Oerlikon Nonwoven meltblown plant sold to Australia

Queensland company OZ Health Plus will establish Australia’s first manufacturing plant to make the critical fine plastic material used in most protective face masks. OZ Health Plus has purchased a plant of the Swiss-based technology company Oerlikon to establish a Queensland-based production plant for spun-bond and meltblown nonwovens.

China adds polypropylene on Dalian Commodity Exchange

China has added polypropylene (PP), along with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), as a trading option on the Dalian Commodity Exchange in the country's northeastern province of Liaoning. With this, the number of options listed for trading on the Exchange has increased to seven, according to Chinese media reports.

Harvard University makes soft robots more usable

Scientists at Harvard University have developed Smart Thermally Actuating Textiles (STATs) that bring about pressure changes in soft robots by electrically controlling liquid-vapour phase changes, eliminating the need for pneumatic tethers. This opens up new textile robotic applications. Soft robots need "actuating" and "sensing" systems for motion.
