Mativ has announced the successful completion of the merger of equals between Schweitzer-Mauduit International (SWM) and US’ Neenah, two global manufacturers of specialty materials, effective July 6, 2022. Mativ has approximately $3 billion in sales, supporting customers in more than 100 countries, and manufacturing capabilities on four continents.

Researchers at MIT have invented a form-fitting fabric that can recognise the wearer’s movements and even posture. The fabrication process, which employs digital-knitting technology, enables rapid prototyping, making it possible for the smart fabric to be manufactured on a large scale. Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Petrochemical Company has announced that Advanced Polyolefins Industry Company has signed various Islamic facility agreements worth 6.1 billion Saudi riyals ($1.6 billion) with a consortium of financial institutions to finance the construction of three plants – PDH, PP and IPA plants – at the Jubail Industrial City II.

A new and improved version of N95 face masks has been developed by researchers from the New York-based Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The masks boast of antiviral and antibacterial properties, and also last longer and cause less plastic waste. These masks would be highly useful in the fight against COVID-19 as they can kill germs on contact.
