The lab facilities of the ThermoPlastic composites Application Centre (TPAC) have started functioning. The lab has processing equipment for cost-effective processing and application of thermoplastic composites. It studies low-cost processing and lightweight materials. The lab was opened by Anka Mulder, president of Saxion University of Applied Sciences.

Avgol Nonwovens, Bostik and Calla Lily Personal Care are competing for INDA’s Hygienix Innovation Award 2018 for technologies and innovations related to nonwovens, seen as game changers for consumer hygiene and personal care products. The finalists have been selected by INDA’s Technical Advisory Board. The award will be presented on November 8.

Researchers at the University of Leeds are working towards developing 'smart trousers' with artificial 'muscles' which could help the elderly and specially-abled with their mobility. The £2.5 million project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), incorporates technologies including smart electronics and graphene.

Cinte Techtextil China presented quality buyers and opened new business opportunities for exhibitors - 480 from 22 countries and regions. There was an eight per cent rise in overseas participants in comparison to the event held in 2016. The show which was held during September 4-6 in Shanghai recorded 13,203 visitors from 55 countries and regions.
